Hi there

i'm ettiene botha,

I'm proudly a South African artist.
I worked for a digital agency as a web developer for 2 years. Soon after that, in 2020, I was introduced to ANIME, and from that moment on, I’ve had the desire to create characters and bring them to life with their own tales to tell. Since 2021, I’ve been doing character design and illustration.

Over the years, I’ve worked with various clients, ranging from individuals to business coaches and design agencies.

I was born in 1998 – a South African artist who started my own art business at 23: Ezra Art & Ezra Design.

I always loved art. However, the kind of art I was exposed to growing up never really inspired me enough to pursue it seriously. During the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, I watched Dragon Ball Super—a show I had loved as a kid. It stirred up all kinds of emotions and, ultimately, led me to explore the world of Anime (Japanese animation).

Not long after, I bought my first laptop and digital drawing tablet, and began learning character design. Fast forward a few years, and I’ve made a career out of it.

I’ve always been transparent about this: I’m not the best artist or designer out there—there are millions better than me. Nevertheless, that’s part of my drive. I’ve never settled for “just okay.” I constantly push myself to improve, so one day I can confidently say:
“I stand among the best in the world.”
How do I differentiate myself?

Maybe it’s my style, or the way I interpret and see things? Then again, a million other artists and designers could say the same. What I know for sure, though, is that staying true to myself is what truly sets me apart. Because in reality, clients hire me because they like and trust me. The fact that I deliver quality work is simply an added bonus.

I’m still growing, still venturing into new depths. I admit—I’m a bit greedy when it comes to what I want to achieve in life. Therefore, I will keep working hard to turn my goals and dreams into reality.

And finally, I owe immense gratitude to God, my parents, sister, friends, fellow business peers, and mentors who have supported me all the way. They made every fall a little softer, and helped me rise stronger—each time with more experience and wisdom..

CHARACTER DESIGN
I have a wide set of skills to create diverse character concepts. My specialty lies in human-based characters, but at the same time, I’m able to design mechanical beings, mythical creatures, hybrids, and animals.
I understand the importance of character sheets in the game and animation industries, and I am equipped to provide them as needed.
I have extensive knowledge of clothing, cultures, religions, myths, and more.

ALBUM COVER & BOOK COVERS
I’m more than equipped to create stunning album, EP, and single covers. I understand the principles of cover art and its powerful role in visually representing music. I also know what layouts, colors, and font sizes work best—both for streaming platforms and for physical copies.

As an author myself, I know just how crucial a book’s cover art is. If the cover doesn’t entice or grab attention, you could lose potential readers—and even opportunities with publishers. That’s exactly why I treat each book cover as a big deal: it should represent your story and connect with your audience.

WATERCOLOR & CANVAS PAINTINGS
With 7 years of self-taught experience in both watercolor and acrylic canvas paintings, I specialize mainly in stylized portraits and expressive, imaginative works. I’ve created multiple large-scale artworks for clients.

My watercolor pieces usually feature white backgrounds with patterns, lines, or distressing. In contrast, my canvas artworks are more expressive and less defined, compared to my watercolor style.
